rhoda_rants gave me the letter G, so here we go!
First off, HOW IN THE WORLD AM I SUPPOSED TO PICK JUST FIVE CHARACTERS?! Arg. This is going to be tough.
1. GANDALF.

Also known as Mithrandir or Olorin. (I love saying Mithrandir aloud.) On the one hand, he's sensible and straightforward; on the other, he's elusive and mysterious. Oh, and also extremely powerful. Not every wizard can battle with a Balrog of Morgoth and live to remember it--much less come back as an ever more powerful Maia than before. Not everybody could refuse to take The One Ring when it was offered, either. I think what I like best about Gandalf is, for all his high knowledge and all his renown among Elves, Men, and wizards, he can still be completely at ease discussing the true meaning behind good morning with a Hobbit.
2. GALADRIEL.

She is, in my mind, an excellent example of a true "strong woman." Does she ever feel obligated to remind people that she was one of the only woman to speak among the gatherings of the Princes of the Noldor? Does she ever complain of being the only woman given possession of a Ring of Power in the beginning, opposite Elrond, Gandalf, Dwarf Lords, Kings of Men, and Sauron himself? Does she ever mention that all major elven realms are controlled by an Elf lord (Rivendell by Elrond, the Grey Havens by Cirdan the Shipwright, Mirkwood by Legolas' father King Thranduil), except for Lothlorien, which she rules jointly with Celeborn? No. She doesn't need to prove she's one of the big players. She just speaks with you directly in your mind, and you freak out. Also, like Gandalf, she resisted the temptation to take The Ring from Frodo. How many people do you know who wield tremendous power, and would refuse the chance to gain even more tremendous power?
3. GENESIS RHAPSODOS.

I tried to find one word to describe this guy, but the best thing I could come up with is volcano, and even that doesn't quite cut it. Emotionally volatile, he's both tortured and driven in turn by obsession and ambition, which he nurses in the constant study and quotation of the epic poem "Loveless." This burning need for glory injures and poisons his friendships, and even Genesis himself, when his soaring aspirations lock him in conflict with fellow First-Class S.O.L.D.I.E.R. Sephiroth. Best of all, he rocks red leather and a wicked sword. (The fact that he's inspired by and modeled from Gackt doesn't hurt, either.) He's anything but boring, and that's why he fascinates me.
4. GIDEON.

After I got over my initial ZOMG-it's-Inigo-Montoya reaction and actually paid attention to his character, I realized he's very perceptive, and also subtle in his way of talking to people, a rare gift, especially in a man. (Count on your fingers how many guys you know that you can say have mastered subtlety. Not many, is it?) What I like best about him is his empathy, his quickness to put himself in someone else's shoes. For all his sensitivity, he's also methodical and unflinching under stress, a trait that takes skill to develop and guts to execute.
5. GARCIA.

I love quirky characters, and Garcia is easily one of the quirkiest gals on TV. She surrounds herself with color and fun, partly because she likes the stuff anyway, and partly to take the edge off the grim aspects of working with a division of the FBI that goes after serial killers. (Gideon's one of her co-workers.) She's funny, off-the-wall, quick-witted, and endearing. And somehow, she makes plucky computer geek flirting with smooth-talking chiseled jock look like the OTP to end all OTPs. Anything resembling flirtation usually makes me gag; but Garcia and Morgan have made a believer out of me.

Date: 2012-04-12 06:58 pm (UTC)I felt kinda bad that I neglected my other fandoms to put in two characters each from LotR and CM, but, hey, they had the characters with the letter G, so I went with that. :)

Date: 2012-04-12 08:01 pm (UTC)Gandalf. Just... <3. That's all I can say about him. XD And Galadriel is too awesome. One of my favourite powerful ladies in literature.
I never actually knew anything about Genesis' personality, so thanks for writing about him!
