I was thinking about posting something really awesome or funny or touching on 11/11/11.

Guess what? I can't think of anything that seems awesome enough. (Besides pictures of baby pterodactyls, which I don't have.)

So I'll just post one of my favorite poems.

THE DUKE OF PLAZA-TORO
William S. Gilbert

In enterprise of martial kind,
When there was any fighting,
He led his regiment from behind
(He found it less exciting).

But when away his regiment ran,
His place was at the fore, O-
That celebrated,
Cultivated,
Underrated Nobleman,
The Duke of Plaza-Toro!

In the first and foremost flight, ha, ha!
You always found that knight, ha, ha!
That celebrated,
Cultivated,
Underrated Nobleman,
The Duke of Plaza-Toro!

When, to evade Destruction's hand,
To hide they all proceeded,
No soldier in that gallant band
Hid half as well as he did.

He lay concealed throughout the war,
And so preserved his gore, O!
That unaffected,
Undetected,
Well connected Warrior,
The Duke of Plaza-Toro!

In every doughty deed, ha, ha!
He always took the lead, ha, ha!
That unaffected,
Undetected,
Well connected Warrior,
The Duke of Plaza-Toro!

When told that they would all be shot
Unless they left the service,
That hero hesitated not,
So marvellous his nerve is.

He sent his resignation in,
The first of all his corps, O!
That very knowing,
Overflowing,
Easy-going Paladin,
The Duke of Plaza-Toro!

To men of grosser clay, ha, ha!
He always showed the way, ha, ha!
That very knowing,
Overflowing,
Easy-going Paladin,
The Duke of Plaza-Toro!

And now I'm off to get ready for work, and not beat myself up because I didn't get any NaNoWriMo writing done yet today.

ONE OF MY FAVOURITE POEMS BY ANONYMOUS. DID IT IM PRIMARY SCHOOL AND FELL IN LOVE WITH IT:
FROM http://rpo.library.utoronto.ca/poem/38.html

VERSION 1
The old Grey Hearse goes rolling by,
You don't know whether to laugh or cry;
For you know some day it'll get you too,
And the hearse's next load may consist of -- you.

They'll take you out and they'll lower you down,
While men with shovels stand all a-round;
They'll throw in dirt and they'll throw in rocks,
And they won't give a dam-m-m if they break the box.

The worms crawl in and the worms crawl out,
They crawl all over your chin and mouth,
They invite their friends and their friends' friends too,
And you look like hell when they're -- through -- with you.

there is a version 2 but i don't like it as much...

Wow, I love the rhythm of this poem--even the rhythm itself makes you want to shiver!
