We've seen examples of "isn't safety more important than freedom" many times already. The TSA exsisting is one of them, those darned red-light cameras are an other.
This is protecting copyright holders, and that's the only way they're gaining support. Because this act is for our own protection. And that's how it starts; that's how it has always started.
On top of that, I can only imagine that a few of the people going for this don't actually understand the way things work on the internet or something :\
