Time for Ramblez, Preciousss

Apparently, yesterday was International Women's Day? Meh. Why celebrate half of the population of the world for only one day? Personally, I think every day is International Women's Day, because we rule. :)

I've been getting a little more free time lately, so I've been putting it to use researching ancient cultures, partly for fun, partly for historical content to play with in the backstory of my current WIP. Thanks to some excellent books on Caesar, Cleopatra, and ancient Gauls and other Celtic cultures, I think I know which direction I want to steer things. Now the burden is on me to keep the plot flowing, and not bog down the entire story with fangirling about ancient cultures. That's . . . going to be tough.

Also, I need to re-watch the version of Cleopatra starring Elizabeth Taylor again. Or maybe not. Every time I read the name "Antony", in my head I always hear, "I like almost all Greek things," followed by, "As an almost-all Greek thing, I'm flattered."

In closing, I've started work on my elven cloak for wearing to the midnight premier of The Hobbit later this year. (Why is it still nine months, preciousss?!) I've been wrestling with stuff for a while, and all I've got to show for it is some pretty chalk markings to give me a hint I should probably start cutting the fabric. Guess I should go . . .

Okay, this right here? Just got me really excited about your WIP. I love almost all Celtic things. :)

Squee! Same here. I really liked the idea of one my bad vampires being an ancient Celt that participated in one of the sacks of Rome, so I've been researching that to figure out which sack I want it to be, and which tribe I want him to belong to, and all that jazz. Then I found out Anne Rice had pretty much already done that in one of her books, and I almost abandoned the idea. But not quite.

Well Anne Rice has done everything--don't let that stop you. Even if the idea has some similarities, you're not going to tell the same story she told. It doesn't work like that.

I'll have to keep that in mind, because they are more similarities to her stories that I didn't plan on having, simply because when I came up with the ideas, I hadn't read any of her work. When I first read Interview with a Vampire and learned it was about two blonde male vampires with French-sounding names, I wanted to headdesk, because that's what I was going with, too. LOL.

Well Louis is a brunette, so I'm not sure what you mean by that, but yeah, there are many, many other stories about vampires, in France and elsewhere.

IMO, The Vampire Lestat is better. Just because I like Lestat as a character better. But that will definitely give a sense of the scope of cultures and time periods she's covered. Anyways--yeah, don't let it stop you.

He's brunette after all? I must've not paid proper attention while reading, because I came away from the story with a firm belief that Louis was a blonde. Well, that takes care of that problem . . . :D

I read him as blonde too, I'm not sure why, but I remember in the subsequent books (which are predominantly narrated by Lestat) him being described as "dark-haired." It throws me every time, but yep. Louis is not blonde.

Can't wait to see your progress on your cloak! Have fun. ^_^
