gothrockrulz: (hotch awesome)

It's May ALREADY!

Blegh. Where is the year going? I feel as if I haven't gotten anything done yet--especially as I'm watching a ton of people struggling to stay afloat during finals, my BFF and brother included. Kinda makes me feel guilty that I've got it easy by comparison--but, hey, working part-time and writing the rest of the time, instead of going to college, was my choice. I'll keep at it, and see if my hunch that I can pursue a writing career my own way will turn out right. (Of course, keeping that "writing the rest of the time" literal and fresh in my mind would help. I tend to get distracted too easily.)

Speaking of distractions, perhaps I should pretend the internet is down for a while. That might help. I saw an icon somewhere that read something like this: "The key to being a successful writer is keeping off the internet." True, that.

But, before I go, I've got to post this video. It's an ad-lib moment from the filming of season 4 of Supernatural. THIS is the best example of why I'm hopelessly addicted to this show. Jensen Ackles is one of the most awesome dorks on the planet, and I will never be able to hear "Eye of the Tiger" again without giggling.

LOL--that was awesome. Thanks. :D

Dude, you ain't kiddin'. So....many...distractions... See, that's why I've gone back to writing everything longhand first--no computer, until I have something already written and just waiting to be typed. Helps a lot.

You're very welcome.

I've gone back to writing longhand, too. It frustrates me that I can't write as fast as I can type, but my eyes start aching after staring at the screen trying to come up with ideas, so back to pen and paper I go. So much easier on the eyes. Also, there's just something special about seeing your words in your own messy handwriting . . .

Heh--yeah, that too. I write faster in cursive, so all my notebooks are in my Southern chicken-scratch script, which I somehow inherited from my mother. Every once in a while, when I'm writing in a public place like a cafe or a restaurant, the server will come by and look over my shoulder and say, "WOW, you have such nice handwriting!" :D It's fun. Also because I know, since I write so narrow and so few people even use cursive still, they have no idea what it says.

Fast cursive for the win! Funny thing is, most people seem to assume that writing in cursive is actually slower. Which shows they've never really tried. :)

It's really awesome when a guy has nice handwriting. Pretty much all the guys that I know (and they're not that many, LOL) have penmanship that ranges from meh to illegible.

Why can't many people read cursive, anyway? I read and write it all the time. (I've even managed to learn to read my grandmother's cursive on birthday cards.) But then, my Mom went out of her way to teach us good penmanship. (Not that we always use that skill . . .) That reminds me, I need to practice calligraphy more often.

Wow you're really serious about writing! Are you focused on a long novel, or several shorter stories?

[identity profile] gothrockrulz.livejournal.com 2012-05-03 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a long novel. A very long novel. It was supposed to be just one book, but the story got so complicated, I've had to split it into two books. (One villain just will not cooperate and die off for me. Writers are supposed to control their characters, but I'm learning more and more that it's often the other way around.) I may even have to make it three books. We'll see how it goes. *glares at headstrong villain*

But that's how you know you're a good writer! A bad writer would write the story straight, without adhering to a character's personality. And there's nothing wrong with 3 books :) trilogies are good. Either that, or you'd have to change the villain's personality to make him fit your timeline, it seems like.

LOL! Thank you for encouraging me! :)
