Leave of Absence

Drabble written for Challenge #04: The Table of Doom, prompt Lost, over at [livejournal.com profile] writerverse. Concrit welcome!

Summary: What is it like to be a little girl grown up?

Little girls wonder when the dormant woman within them will awaken, ushering them into adulthood. They don't know how this will happen, this stepping into a world new and old at the same time, and they're almost afraid to know what it will be like beforehand. To know if the woman really will eclipse the girl forever.

But do women wonder if there is a little girl lying dormant within them, just as the woman lay dormant in previous years? Or that all they have to do to bring the little girl back is remember a forgotten childhood?

I wonder.

That is good. You didn't take it literally (too many people do) and made it your own.

Thanks! I like to try to be creative--it makes it more fun! :)

I really like how you interpeted the prompt, when the first reaction seems to be to use it in a literal sense. This piece really struck me too, on a personal level, because I just turned thirty at the end of April and I wonder things like that too. When I read this piece, I relate to it as awoman and as an adult. Also, I could see this being used as a voice over or interlude, it's written very precise and I really can't find anything to critique. :)

Thank you so much! I might have gone by the literal sense, but the little girl in me started wondering, and that was that. :)

That's lovely. I like that you've used the prompt in a way that's unexpected and kind of gorgeous. I love the language you use. Dormant is such a good choice to describe the woman waiting to emerge from the girl. It's my opinion that the girl never goes away. She's always there ready to play tag or run through a sprinkler no matter how old we get!

Awww, thank you! As for the little girl never dying, I agree--you're never too old to run through a sprinkler! :)
